Chemical Biology Graduate Program Application Process

How to Apply

PROSPECTIVE UC BERKELEY STUDENTS: Before joining the CBGP, you must first apply to and be accepted by the graduate program of one of our two core participating departments: Chemistry and Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB). Specific application information and requirements can be found on their departmental websites. Please state your desire to explore Chemical Biology research in your personal statements in the application to your home department.

STUDENTS ADMITTED TO UC Berkeley: Once you have been admitted to UC and commit to coming to Berkeley, joining the CBGP is EASY!
In May, all entering Chemistry students and qualifying MCB students will receive an email with a link to a short CBGP registration form. That form will request a paragraph explaining why you would be a good fit for the program, and whether you would prefer the rotation track or (in Chemistry) the traditional route of joining a research lab during your first semester in the program.

Candidates will be notified of acceptance into the CBGP during the summer. The number of students accepted each year is determined by both funding and the size of the applicant pool. We generally average 15 students per incoming class.

If you have any questions about this process, please send an e-mail to chembio@berkeley.edu
