Marcella Yu

Marcella Yu is currently the Executive Director of Pivotal and Commercial Cell Culture Process Development at Gilead Sciences. Marcella has over 17 years of industrial experience in the upstream process development area primarily in the mammalian field, with a slight exposure to cell free protein synthesis in one of her past roles. Throughout the years, Marcella has been involved in early phase, late phase/commercial process development, tech transfer and scale-up of various therapeutic products including monoclonal antibodies, enzyme-based products, and antibody-drug conjugates. She also was heavily involved in advancing cell culture platform process at her various posts, including next-generation manufacturing platforms such as continuous manufacturing. She held various positions at Genentech, Genzyme/Sanofi, Boehringer Ingelheim, Sutro, and Gilead. Marcella obtained both her B.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at UCLA.
