Colors

UC Berkeley's color palette helps us express our personality and elevate our identity — leading with Berkeley Blue and California Gold. Using color appropriately is one of the easiest ways to make sure our materials reflect a cohesive image or visual story. The UC Berkeley color palette has two layers: primary and secondary palettes.

Examples of the full Berkeley palette with Hex, CMYK, and Pantone specifications.

Primary Palette: The primary colors are Berkeley Blue and California Gold. Additionally, California Heritage Gold may be used in premium or special communications.

Secondary Palette: The secondary color palette is designed to complement our primary palette and includes shades that accent and add depth and dimension to our primary colors. They may also be used for data visualization and illustration.

Typography (Fonts)

Typography — used thoughtfully — is another powerful brand tool to add visual meaning to what is communicated. UC Berkeley’s typography is clear and clean, and flexible enough to apply in a wide range of applications.

Brand Fonts

With the academic and athletic identities in mind, we identified two font families (sans serif and serif) with expansive weights that can be applied across a range of communications. We chose fonts available from Google for ease of use across our platforms.

Inter
Inter is a sans serif, which can be used across academic and athletic contexts.

Source Serif
Source Serif is a serif, for when a more elegant font is required.

In instances where Inter and Source Serif aren’t available, use Arial or Times as alternative fonts.

Design Resouces

If you require design support (e.g., you need a designer for a project), please explore the following resources:

Canva Essential Training
Canva Essential Training is a LinkedIn Learning e-course that helps us move from the practice of trial & error to using the features available within the Canva resource library. This course outlines some hard skills practice that helps learners create projects, review artificial intelligence design features, understand tools to manage their brand, and more.

Through UC Berkeley's subscription, employees have access to the LinkedIn Learning video library of engaging, top-quality courses taught by recognized industry experts.

UC Berkeley's Creative Lab
Consider UC Berkeley's Creative Lab for logo design, graphic design, advertising, photography, and in-house print services.

Service Request Form for Special Projects

Print Projects
If you have a request for a special CoC print project that cannot be met using the resources above, please fill out this form. Requests are placed in a queue and prioritized based on a variety of factors. Please allow 2-4 days for a response and up to 4 weeks for project completions.

Because the Communications Team is limited in capacity and does not have an in-house design team, we can also often act as a consultant to meet your needs and get your project done.

Web Updates/Projects
To request an update/changes to the college website please go to the  website update request page, or email: leighm@berkeley.edu
