
Starting in Fall 2026!
BICCEP is an opportunity for visiting students from partner institutions to study at the College of Chemistry for one semester or one academic year (August-May). Students in this program will take classes alongside UC Berkeley students and participate in activities such as-
- Laboratory tours
- Seminars with Professors and Alumni
- Workshops on topics such as resume writing and graduate school applications
- Field trips to local destinations such as San Francisco
Eligibility Criteria
- Nomination from a partner university
- 3rd or 4th year students who have completed organic chemistry
- Minimum GPA: 3.0 (out of 4.0) in Chemistry
- Demonstrated English Proficiency:
- TOEFL: 90
- IELTS: 7
- Duolingo: 125
- Request a waiver
Cost
The cost of the program is being finalized and it will include tuition and programming, such as workshops and field trips. Additional costs include:

- Lab Fees (depending on enrollment)
- Living Expenses, such as housing, food, textbooks and travel
Curriculum Requirements
BICCEP students are required to take 12-13 semester units from courses in the Department of Chemistry (CHEM) and/or the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CHM ENG). Students who are enrolled for both Fall and Spring semesters should not exceed 25 units total. Please refer to BICCEP Course Information and the Class Schedule.
Students who are interested in graduate-level classes (numbered 200-299) are encouraged to attend the first session and request permission directly from the instructor of record before enrolling in the class.
