Dean Douglas Clark announed today the recent passing on November 6th of our colleague and friend, Kenneth (Ken) Sauer, professor emeritus of chemistry. He was 91 years old.

John E. Hearst, distinguished colleague and professor emeritus of chemistry, passed away this morning at the age of 87.

Carolyn Bertozzi, a professor at Stanford University who today shared the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, spent her formative and most creative years at UC Berkeley.

David Schaffer, Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Bioengineering, Molecular and Cell Biology, and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute at U.C. Berkeley, gave a presentation during homecoming on the future of gene therapies and stem cell therapies. Viewed as the next stages of medical treatments, Prof. Schaffer discusses some of the exciting research coming from his lab.
