The Department of Chemistry and the Berkeley campus value diversity, equity and inclusion as exemplified by the following principles of community:

We recognize the intrinsic relationship between diversity and excellence in all our endeavors.
We embrace open and equitable access to opportunities for learning and development as our obligation and goal.

Our excellence can only be fully realized by faculty, students and staff who share a commitment to these principles. Successful candidates for our faculty positions will demonstrate evidence of a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education through their teaching, research and service activities. Financial and in-kind resources are available to pursue activities that help accelerate our efforts to achieve our equity and inclusion goals.

All applicants should submit a recently updated curriculum vitae, a statement of research plans, and a statement of teaching. In addition, a 2-3-page statement on their contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including information about their understanding of these issues, their record of activities to date, and their specific plans and goals for advancing equity and inclusion if hired as a Berkeley faculty member should be included (for additional information, go to https://ofew.berkeley.edu/recruitment/contributions-diversity). Applicants should also provide at least three but no more than five letters of recommendation. A cover letter is optional. Applications should be submitted electronically through our web-based system.

All recommendation letters will be treated as confidential per University of California policy and California state law. Please refer potential referees, including when letters are provided via a third party (i.e., dossier service or career center), to the UC statement on confidentiality prior to submitting their letters.

The deadline for receipt of the application materials is October 15, 2019. Please direct questions to Katie Cisco (kcisco@berkeley.edu).
