Hoffman Awarded Priestley Medal for 2000 Two Faculty Elected to National Academies |
Berkeley Chemistry #1 and Chemical Engineering Still #2 Among U. S. Colleges and Universities Berkeley's chemistry and chemical engineering graduate programs were once again rated first and second in the nation, respectively, according to this year's U. S. News and World Report survey. The annual survey is released every spring and ranks university graduate programs through a survey of U. S. academics in each discipline. In the various chemistry specialty areas Berkeley is ranked first in Physical chemistry, third in Organic, third in Inorganic, and fourth in Bio-Organic/Biophysical. Chemical engineering's ranking is based on a survey of engineering department deans. |

COMMENCEMENT 1999 This year's Commencement ceremony took place on Sunday, May 23, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. on the College of Chemistry Plaza. Dr. Paul S. Anderson, Senior Vice President of Chemical and Physical Sciences at DuPont Pharmaceuticals Company, and the 1997 president of the American Chemical Society, delivered the commencement address.
