Jay Keasling delivers Colburn Lecture
Jay
Keasling delivered the Colburn Lecture at the University of
Delaware on November 1st. This lecture recognizes outstanding
young faculty research accomplishments and is named after Allan
Colburn, a leader of the profession who, in the 1930s helped launch
the department at U. Delaware by serving as its first chair. Keasling
talked on "Remodeling microbial metabolism for synthesis
of complex chemicals."
Keasling
and his group focus on the metabolic engineering of microorganisms
for degradation of environmental contaminants or for environmentally
friendly synthesis. They have developed a number of new genetic
and mathematical tools to allow more precise and reproducible
control of metabolism.
