Chemistry professor Graham Fleming has been named an Honorable Foreign Member of the Chemical Society of Japan. Says Fleming, “I’m honored to be named a member of this very select group. There are only fourteen living members, five of whom have Nobel prizes.” Fleming will join the College of Chemistry’s other two members, Y.T. Lee and Gabor Somorjai.

The award will be given on March 17, 2017, at the annual meeting of the chemical society at Keio University in Tokyo.

The Chemical Society of Japan was founded in 1878. With a current membership exceeding 34,000, it is one of the most affluent academic societies in Japan, covering most areas of pure and applied chemistry.
