Network

In general, if you have any questions or problems with the network in the College, please contact Information Systems via support@cchem.berkeley.edu

AirBears guest account:
The majority of the College has wireless network coverage via Campus AirBears service. Anyone with a CalNet ID and passphrase can access the wireless service. If you have a guest, they can access the service with a Guest account which can be setup via:
http://ist.berkeley.edu/airbears/guest_account

Campus DHCP service:
We are continuing to convert the College's subnet from static IP addresses to the Campus DHCP service. If you are on one of these subnets, you can register your new or replacement network devices via the page listed below. In order to use the registration page, you will need to have an active CalNet ID and passphrase.
http://www.net.berkeley.edu/dhcp/

If you are connecting a server, data collection system, or a printer, you will need to contact Information Systems to request a fixed IP address. We will need the hardware address of the device, the building, room, and the port that the device will be connected to. Typical turn around is two days.

Campus DNS:
128.32.206.9
128.32.136.12

Lookup: berkeley.edu

If you are in a room that is limited data connections, it is within Campus policy to use a switch to expand upon the available connections. However there are limitations to what is allowable, for instance there should be no daisy chaining of switches off one another, no routers or NAT style devices. We suggest the use of the following devices:

NetGear 5 Port 10/100Mbps switch (roughly $25 NewEgg)

NetGear 8 Port 10/100Mbps switch (roughly $50 NewEgg)
