College Parking Permit

Request No Longer In Use

Visitors to campus (including vendors and repair people) can no longer have parking arrangements made for them by our College receptionist; she will no longer be able to accept such requests, whether by phone, e-mail or College's website.

The $13 daily parking fee for individual visitors may no longer be billed to PIs' accounts on a case-by-case basis. Instead, the campus has moved to a very different system whereby individual PIs (or a member of their staff or research group) will need to purchase visitor parking passes on their own, and will then need to make independent arrangements to get the pass to their visitor.

If PIs wish to have a visitor pay for his/her own parking, that is possible through only two mechanisms:

  1. The PI may take cash reimbursement from the visitor.
  2. The visitor must drive to the West Gate kiosk (the one on the opposite end of campus, by Oxford Street), where a pass may be purchased from a machine.

Parking and Transportation Purchasing and Distributing Visitor Parking Passes:

PIs and their groups are advised to purchase parking passes in advance, so that they will have them on hand and can provide them to visitors prior to their visit. These passes may be purchased with an I.O.C. (so the cost can be billed to a chartstring) and can be purchased by going in person to the Office of Parking & Transportation at 2150 Kittredge Street.

Daily passes are $13 each and are for visitors only; they may not be used by employees or students.

PIs are encouraged to purchase passes in bulk, based on anticipated needs.

Passes purchased now are good through December 31, 2008.

Once you have purchased these passes, there are several options for distributing them to your visitors:

If you are not able to send the pass to the visitor in advance, you may:

  1. Drop off a daily pass at the East Gate kiosk (the one in front of Latimer). Include the visitor's name, departmental contact information (including name and phone number), and a self-addressed campus mail envelope. The envelope is needed so that parking passes not claimed can be returned to you via campus mail.
  2. Tell your visitor to pick up the pass at your office. When the visitor initially drives up to the kiosk, he/she should provide the attendant with a destination building or department name, and the name of a contact person. Your guest will be provided with a 20-minute guest pass which must be displayed while obtaining the visitor pass from you. The visitor will then need to hang their visitor pass in their vehicle, as the 20-minute guest pass will expire.

Having visitors pay for their own parking:

If you wish your visitor to pay for his or her own parking, you have the option of accepting a $13 cash reimbursement for the pass that you provide. Otherwise, the visitor may purchase a parking pass upon his/her arrival, but may do so only at the West Gate kiosk, just off of Oxford Street (the East Gate kiosk, which is much closer to the College, offers no such option). Have your visitor present the West Gate attendant with a destination building or department name, and the name of a contact person. Your guest will then be provided with a guest pass that must be displayed along with a $13 daily ticket that can be purchased at the parking machine located at the West Gate kiosk.

Both the guest pass and the daily ticket must be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle.

Parking Machines and Access:

The parking machine at the West Gate does not give change, nor will the kiosk attendant. Moreover, campus roads are such that visitors who purchase daily tickets at the West Gate cannot then drive through campus to the College of Chemistry; rather, the visitor must exit the campus and drive around it in order to re-enter at the East Gate, off of Gayley Road.

Parking after 5 pm:

Along with the changes above, the East and West Gate kiosks will now close at 5 pm daily. After 5:00, visitors (like all members of the public) may park in parking structures and designated spots across campus, paying hourly rates at nearby machines.

Request Processing:

here is currently a 24-hour turn-around for requests for visitor parking passes. You must bring the original signed I.O.C. with you when picking up your passes. Lobby hours for pick-up are 8-3 Monday through Friday.
