News From the College
Feature Story:
A major strength of the College of Chemistry at UC Berkeley is the interaction between its two departments. Our feature article looks at examples of collaboration between chemical engineering and chemistry in which both students and faculty are improving their research by sharing techniques and information. This figure comes from a paper by Mathias Haake, a postdoc who worked with Chemical Engineering Professor Jeff Reimer and Chemistry Professor Alex Pines to develop new applications for continuous flow of polarized xenon for measurement using NMR. Coming from a collaboration between members of both departments, it illustrates a 2D velocity profile in flow direction (x-profile) of laser-polarized xenon passing through a 3:1 restriction.
