Equally important are the unrestricted donations to the College and the generous support of the Tan Hall project, which is a vital component of the College's plans to prepare for the twenty-first century.
A key aspect of our support from private companies is the Industrial Friends Program (IFP). Through unrestricted gifts, fellowships, support of young faculty, and funds for facilities, the member companies contribute substantial assistance in maintaining the pioneering research and outstanding education that have traditionally been the mission of the College.
Members of the IFP receive increased contact with the faculty, priority assistance with their on-campus recruiting efforts, and special College publications, tours, and invitations to seminars and other activities of interest. (Companies listed in boldface are members of the Industrial Friends Program; they contribute a minimum of $15,000 for a departmental membership or $30,000 for College membership.)
Over the past year, the Chemistry Department has received support from American Cyanamid, Berlex, Eli Lilly, Hoffman La-Roche, Rohm and Haas, Tularik, Union Carbide, and Upjohn. Additional generous support has been provided by Abbott Labs, 3M, Dow Chemical, DuPont, Eastman Kodak, Exxon, W. R. Grace, Hitachi, Miles Inc., Q-Chem, Rhône-Poulenc Rorer, John Wiley & Sons and Xerox. Warner Lambert, Schering-Plough and Cosmo Oil have also been most generous.
Our Chemical Engineers have been supported by Chevron, DuPont, Zeneca, Bechtel, Clorox, Dow Chemical, Exxon, W. R. Grace, Merck, Procter & Gamble, Shell Oil, Soane Technologies, Union Carbide and Unocal.
Among the companies providing general or building support to the College are: Air Products, LAM Systems, Nippon Steel, Los Gatos Research, Ryoka Systems, and Tuntex. The Scholars Program was supported by Bechtel, DuPont, 3M, ARCO, Rohm and Haas and Shell Oil.
The College has also been supported by other institutions. Notable in particular are the Kresge Foundation, the Parsons Foundation, the Schlinger Foundation, the American Society of Engineering Education, the American Heart Association, the ARCS Foundation, the American Chemical Society and the American Society of Mass Spectrometry. A most pleasing addition this spring were generous awards from the Searle Scholars Program and from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Our faculty and students also benefited from generous donations of equipment from 3M, Hewlett-Packard and IBM.
Overall, support from corporations and foundations totaled over $2.3 million for 1994-95. The College gratefully acknowledges and is most thankful for the generosity of all our friends. Their support makes a critical difference.
