Katz, assistant professor of chemical
engineering, and his students are creating materials with three-dimensional
organization on the nanoscale. The cover shows an SEM scan of a material
that consists of a silica framework pocketed by isolated primary amines
that are each enclosed, with each pocket containing one primary amine.
These and other novel materials created in the Katz group will impact
separations and catalysis.
