Tan Hall: 5 Years of Excellence in Research

In the spring NewsJournal, on the fifth anniversary of the dedication of Tan Hall, seven faculty members talked about their move into the state-of-the-art new building and the research performed there. Here, we present the stories of the other seven professors who now occupy Tan Hall. After four years of construction, Tan Hall changed the way research was done in the college. It offered spacious modern laboratory facilities for fourteen faculty members and provided the first space at Berkeley ever designed for chemical engineering. It provided a place for collaborators to work together from both departments, and it played a major role in the retention of several faculty members and in the recruitment of both faculty and students.
