2001
Janet D. Chuang (B.S., Chem) writes, “I spent the year after graduation teaching English in China, and now am at MIT, enjoying the Boston seasons and finishing a master’s in environmental engineering. Hello to fellow alums, and Go Bears!”

Christina Smolke (Ph.D., ChE), an assistant professor at Caltech, has been named as one of the world’s 100 Top Young Innovators by Technology Review. According to the editors, Smolke “fine-tunes the activity of individual genes via an adaptable technology that is potentially useful in biosensors, gene therapies targeted to specific types of cells, and the development of new antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer treatments.”

Victor C. Lau (Postdoc , Chem) is deputy director of Compass Tech Co. in Hong Kong.

2003
Patricia A. Cleary (Ph.D. , Chem) is a postdoctoral research fellow in the School of Chemistry at the University of Leeds, U.K.

Patricia A. Linden (Ph.D., Chem) is a chemist with the USDA, as well as a proud new homeowner in Novato, CA.

Christian Hess (Postdoc , Chem) is a research scientist in the department of inorganic chemistry at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin.

2004
Amy S. Ng (B.S., ChE) is a process engineer at Novellus Systems in San Jose, CA.
Alexander T. Hawk (Chem) is working in the college as a research assistant in Steve Leone’s lab.

Gavin M. Hoch (M.S., ChE) is an associate engineer at Environ International Corp. in Emeryville, CA.

Erik M. Freer (Ph.D., ChE) is a postdoctoral researcher and nano-biotechnologist at IBM in San Jose, CA.

Di Gao (Ph.D., ChE) started as an assistant professor of chemical and petroleum engineering at the University of Pittsburgh this fall.

David T. Kim (Ph.D., ChE) will begin work as a senior associate in environmental consulting for Environ Corporation in Emeryville, CA.

Gary K.L. Lee (Ph.D., ChE) is a research scientist at Cell Genesys in South San Francisco, CA.
